I hope that Mitch Marner signs an offer sheet just to see Toronto Maple Leafs fans freak out

Folks, the Toronto media is at it again stirring up the pot and making Toronto Maple Leafs fans worried that Mitch Marner is going to sign an offer sheet. According to multiple reports, Mitch Marner won’t take anything less than $11 million per year to sign with the Leafs.

This is music to my ears. It’s especially funny that Leafs fans are now turning on him. They’re saying that he should be a better team player and so many fans are dragging his name through the mud. You hate to see it. You really do.

The man was arguably their best player last season and he wants to be paid like their other two best players are at $11+ million per year. It doesn’t help his financial situation out long term by taking a hometown discount because the tax rate in Toronto, Ontario is 53%.

Plus, there’s also the fact that there’s a potential lockout looming for the 2020-2021 season. If the players were to miss an entire season of hockey like they did in 2005 then it would make a pretty big dent into their bank account.

I get that hockey players and athletes as a whole are rich. I understand that they get millions of dollars to play a game. But if your company offered you less money than a competing company to do the same job, wouldn’t you leave it and take more cash? This tweet sums it up.

When it’s all said and done, an athlete can get hurt and their career can be over in an instant. They owe it to themselves to be greedy and get as much money as possible. Just because the Leafs may not be able to afford to give Mitch Marner $11 million per year it doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t be trying to capitalize on his value as much as possible.
