Folks, if you haven’t heard, the State of Florida is pressing charges against DeAndre Baker and he will be prosecuted on four counts of armed robbery with a firearm.
This is obviously not good news for DeAndre Baker as his lawyer said a few months back that he anticipated that all charges would be dropped. Obviously they weren’t dropped and now both Baker and the Giants have a pickle on their hands.
For the Giants, this choice should be easy. Cut DeAndre Baker immediately and don’t look back. You don’t need this kind of distraction. Armed robbery is no joke. Dave Gettleman & Co. just need to admit that they made a mistake drafting this guy and move on.
It’s a tough mistake to justify since it was well known that Baker had character concerns in college. It’s especially tough to justify when the Giants flat out ignored the red flags. The New York post reported that the Giants front office was divided on drafting Baker due to these issues.
“The story was he had to have his ass kicked every day to work hard at Georgia — to even go to practice,” a source told the newspaper. “We knew that and we still drafted him, and from Day 1 it was like taking a guy in the first round that you had to teach nearly everything to.”

It’s time to move on from this horrible situation. The Giants need to set a standard of excellence again that has not been met under Dave Gettleman. It’s time for the team to put their foot down and make the right decision.
