Is it too early for a mock draft? Absolutely. Are we gonna do one anyway? You bet. Free agency, DeShaun Watson, and other offseason trades and storylines will definitely take a toll. However, with such a unique college football season and an unconventional NFL combine, the 2021 draft is going to rely A LOT more on film. We have an idea of who the top guys are, so let’s get into it.
With the 11th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the New York Giants select:
WR Ja’Marr Chase, LSU.
I really didn’t expect DeVonta Smith or Ja’Marr Chase to fall. Both are top 10 players in this class and the Giants are picking at 11. But, you have to look at what the team’s in front of the Giants are going to do. Who actually needs a WR?
Possibly the Dolphins, Bengals, Eagles, and Lions. That’s really it. And you can make an argument against ALL of them taking WRs. Miami isn’t taking a WR over OT Penei Sewell. The Bengals have money invested in Tyler Boyd and just took WR Tee Higgins at the top of the 2nd round last year – and the team isn’t going to just take a player to appease QB Joe Burrow. I expect the Lions to franchise tag WR Kenny Gollday. The Eagles just took a WR in round 1 last offseason.
So that’s how JaMarr Chase Falls.
And if you liked Hakeem Nicks, you’re gonna love this guy. Everything Hakeem Nicks could do, Chase can do better. He’s going to jump higher, run faster, run better routes, all while playing a lot bigger than his actual size. He doesn’t have the elusiveness of someone like Odell but he has elite traits everywhere else.
