Yankees April Recap

Gerrit Cole was the Yankees MVP of April.

With Yankees finishing up the month of April tonight lets take a quick review of this month and a quick preview of May.

The Good: the real bright spot on this team this month has been how great the bullpen has looked, Loaisiga has been the breakout star of the pen he has looked very good so far this year 11 games he has pitched 15.1 innings with 16 Ks and has 1.17 ERA he has been outstanding.
The bad: other than Cole the starting rotation has been very shaky this week they finally were able to get Kluber and German pitching into the 7th inning and they will need a lot more of that so they dont burn out the BP they also need Taillon to step up he has been very shaky in his first month in pinstripes and they really need to get him going but other than Cole and German last 2 starts its hard to feel great about any of the starters in the month of April

The Ugly: The offense has been awful this month as a team hitting .216 with and OBP of .310 and slugging of .679 and they are in bottom 5 of runs scored this month averaging 3.68 runs per game is just plain awful for a team built on offense they have to improve in May if this team is going to get this thing turned around.

Yankees MVP of April: Gerrit Cole went 3-1 1.71 ERA and 50 Ks in 31.2 innings he was our no brainer pick for the MVP of April without him this month would have been so much worse.

Players that have to step it up in May: So many guys to choose from every one of the Starting pitchers not named Cole could easily be the pick but i will go with Clint Frazier May has to be a good month for him i could see him losing his job if his struggles carry into the month of May.

Overall Grade for April is a D this team has been awful the first month entering the final day of April 11-14 is terrible no way to sugarcoat it, April was a disaster of a month.

What lies ahead in May: this is a big month for this year they have series with Rays and Jays coming up this month and both teams handled the Yankees pretty well in the April series they played so the big question is will the Yankees rebound and put up a big month and take over the East or will they keep struggling which will lead too more speculation about Boone job security by us? The good news is they should be getting some help shortly as Voit should be back at some point in May and Severino will start throwing to hitters in May as well and could be back early to mid summer.
