Week 1 Prediction: Giants Edge Out Broncos in an Ugly Game

Folks, we’re roughly 24 hours away from the New York Giants kicking off their season against the Denver Broncos and I couldn’t be more excited for Giants football to be back. With that being said, I have a feeling that is game is going to be anything but exciting.

The Giants and the Broncos in some ways are mirror images of each other. Both teams have strong defenses, good offensive playmakers, bad offensive lines, and bottom tier quarterbacks.

What does that tell me? This game is going to be won by whichever defense plays the strongest. The offenses in this contest, especially during week one, are going to take a while to get going.

When looking at the Giants offense versus the Broncos defense, I am scared to death about having to face Von Miller/Bradley Chubb with Andrew Thomas/Nate Solder as the tackles. That matchup in and of itself is nightmare fuel. There are going to be drives killed because the Giants can’t block those two guys. There will be a ton of holding penalties taken because the Giants didn’t fix their offensive line this offseason. The Giants are simply going to have to overcome them.

The true x-factor will be if Adoree Jackson, who is questionable, can play tomorrow. If he can’t, then winning this game will be a lot harder for the Giants as Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Tim Patrick, and KJ Hamler will all have easier matchups. The Giants secondary HAS to lock down these guys if the Giants want to win this game.

When it comes down to it, I have the Giants offense doing just enough to get a win week one behind a strong defensive performance. Teddy Bridgewater isn’t a world beater and if the Giants can’t beat him at home then they should just cancel the season immediately.

Prediction: Giants 19, Broncos 17
