New York Giants NFL

Every single Dave Gettleman Mistake – It’s a long list

Do you wanna relive a nightmare? The last 4 years of Giants football have been some of the worst in Giants history. Let’s take a walk down memory lane and go through the Dave Gettleman experience – some of the worst moments in Giants football history.

OVERVIEW:

∙19-45 record (.297 win percentage)
∙  $447 million spent in FA
∙ $237 million guaranteed
∙ 32 draft picks
∙ 2 head coaches

2018:

∙ Drafted a RB 2nd overall while completely ignoring trade offers.
∙ Gave Nate Solder the highest paid OL
contract in NFL history
∙ Signed Patrick Omameh to a 3 year deal then cutting him half way through year 1.
∙ Drafted Kyle Lauletta – who was better at eluding the police than playing football.
∙ Traded for and extended Alec Ogletree
∙ Traded away Jason Pierre-Paul
∙ Used a supplemental draft pick on Sam Beal
∙ “Jonathan Stewart hasn’t lost a step.” Signed Jonathan Stewart, Antoine Beathea, and Kareem Martin.
∙ Traded a top 70 pick for Leonard Williams, who he could have signed for free in FA.

2019:

∙ “We didn’t sign Odell to trade him.” Then trading Odell and crippling the 2019 cap.
∙ Signed Golden Tate, who plays the same exact position as Sterling Shepard, to a four year contract at age 30 on a rebuilding team
∙ Drafted Daniel Jones 6th overall
∙ Drafted a 2 down NT, Dex Lawrence, 17th overall
∙ Drafted DeAndre Baker
∙ Bringing Eli back at $20M to barely play.
∙ Scapegoated Pat Shurmur

2020:

∙ Hired Joe Judge
∙ Paid Logan Ryan top safety money when he’s not close to a top safety. Giants choose Ryan over Zeitler and Tomlinson.
∙ Franchise tags Leonard Williams, instead of using the transition tag, making a long term deal in 2020 unlikely

2021:

∙ Cut the team’s best OL, Kevin Zeitler
∙ Gave Kenny Golladay a $18M a year contract when no other team was even close to that number.
∙ Signed Adoree Jackson to a $13M a year contract when you could have traded a 7th to Tennessee for him before he was released.
∙ Failed to address the OL until after the final preseason game.
∙ Rushed to pay Mike Glennon more money than Colt McCoy
∙ Signed Kyle Rudolph
∙ Another leaked draft board so PHI jumps NYG to draft Devonta Smith
∙ Went ALL IN on a roster that’s gonna win 4 games.
∙ $19.8M of cap space pushed into future years due to restructures to operate this season.
∙ Never successfully addressed EDGE rusher or the offensive line in 4 seasons.

It’s all almost over. The effects of Gettleman will still hit this team in 2022. However, the right GM can have this team on the right track heading into 2023. We finally have a little bit of hope.
