Todd McShay released his newest mock draft today and he has the Giants adding two big pieces on their lines. You can check out Todd’s full mock here. Here’s what McShay has the Giants doing:
5. Kayvon Thibodeaux, DE, Oregon
He has great quickness, a good arsenal of pass-rush moves and plenty of versatility. His tape is up and down, hence a mild slide to No. 5, but he’d immediately elevate a New York pass rush that had 34 sacks (tied for 22nd) last season. And he’d perfectly complement Leonard Williams and Azeez Ojulari, the team’s 2021 second-rounder who led the defense with 8.0 sacks in his rookie year.
7. (via CHI) Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi State
He handles speed rushers well and plays with patience, and I see good angles on tape in the run game. … After landing Kayvon Thibodeaux at No. 5, New York can afford to reach a little bit here. With a new GM, head coach and offensive coordinator, the Giants are going to give quarterback Daniel Jones every chance to succeed in 2022 before making a decision after their future under center. … Cross, who gave up one sack on 683 pass-block snaps last season, helps.
This mirrors what Dan and I have had the Giants doing in our mocks. In my mock draft 1.0, the Giants do the following:
5. Trade back with Denver:
Trade terms:
Giants receive: 1st (9th overall), 2nd (40th overall), future 2nd (2023)
Broncos receive: 1st (5th overall)
7. New York Giants (via CHI): OT Charles Cross, Mississippi State
After trading down from 5, the Giants still land one of the top tackles in the draft class. Cross might be the best pass blocker in the entire class. He’s one of the three OTs in this class that have true All-Pro potential.
9. New York Giants (Via Denver): CB Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, Cincinnati
The expectation is that the Giants will move on from James Bradberry this offseason and Wink Martindale’s defense needs two very good CBs to operate. Sauce Gardner is the best CB prospect in the class and didn’t even allow a TD in college.
Dan had the Giants doing the following:
5. New York Giants: Edge Kayvon Thibodeaux
If the draft falls like this then Giants fans are going to be partying incredibly hard. There are rumors in league circles that there are concerns about Thibodeaux’s floor as an edge prospect. I’m not buying it and I think that this pick with the Giants will be as low as he falls
7. Trade with Denver
Trade Terms:
New York Giants Receive: 2022 Round 1, Pick 9, 2022 Round 2 Pick 40, 2022 Round 4 Pick 113
Denver Receives: 2022 Round 1, Pick 7
9. New York Giants (Via Denver): CB Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, Cincinnati
For a team that needs virtually everything and is potentially going to have to cut their best cornerback this offseason, this pick makes a lot of sense. Gardner was a stud in college and his game will translate well to the NFL.
