Folks, it’s officially the first day of the NFL playoffs. For the first time since the 2016 season, my New York Giants are in the playoffs. It’s a great feeling. The playoffs are way more fun when your team is in them.
The Giants have obviously shattered expectations this year. Like most people, I had this team winning six games or less this season. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year.
But the team clearly didn’t listen to anything that I said about them. They blocked out the noise from the outside and went to work each and every week. This team found ways to win. They believed in themselves when nobody else did.
In the NFL there’s a winning culture and a losing culture. While I still do have my doubts on if how the New York Giants are winning is sustainable, the fact of the matter is that they have a winning culture. Winners win. Losers lose. Giants fans know that better than anyone.
Throughout the season, I said that if the Giants make the playoffs this season, anything else that happens after that is gravy. Now that the team is here, that doesn’t resonate with me anymore. I’m not ready for this season to end. I find myself wanting four servings of gravy and a fifth Lombardi trophy in the case.
All the talk about what the future holds for the New York Giants Giants and certain players can wait. Hopefully they can wait another month. I’m not ready to stop watching this team play yet. I want more Giants football. I want this team to make an unexpected run. I want to shock the world.
So as you’re sitting and watching the games this weekend, just know that the Giants are officially a part of the fun again. Hopefully this team can have long term and sustained success. Hopefully this entire season isn’t, as Dave Gettleman would say, a mirage.
At this point, the only positive way this season ends is if there’s a fifth trophy in the case. Only one team will truly be satisfied. Let’s hope that team is the New York Giants.
