Joe Schoen’s Biggest Successes in Year One

It has been a little over a year since Joe Schoen took over as the General Manager for the New York Giants. He was hired on January 21, 2022 to help turn this franchise around. What has his first year as GM looked like?

Of course we could talk about the wins and we could talk about the first playoff win since 2011 or we could talk about the complete culture change in the locker room.

All of those are successes that should be celebrated. Joe Schoen and the New York Giants pulled off a stellar 2022 NFL season. The team overachieved and the future is nothing but bright for an organization that seems to be moving in the right direction.

Let’s take a look at a few things that Schoen pulled off in year one that stand out…

Trading Kadarius Toney to The Chiefs

Kadarius Toney, for whatever reason did not want to be a New York Giant. His injury history is extensive. His time on the field was not. The talent is there but there are questions where Toney’s heart lies in professional football.

Joe Schoen masterfully pulled off a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs that sent Toney to Kansas City in return for 3rd and 6th round picks.

Joe Schoen turned one of David Gettleman’s final mistakes into some potential value in the future for the New York Giants organization.

Isaiah Hodgins

In November, the Buffalo Bills waived Isaiah Hodgins and Joe Schoen swooped in to claim the former Bills wide receiver. How did Hodgins respond? He started five games, he had 33 receptions for 351 yards and caught 4 touchdowns. He also had a stellar game in the wildcard playoffs against the Minnesota Vikings.

Hodgins had 0 drops on the season and led the NFL in catchable pass rate. Not too shabby for a midseason waiver wire pickup who was lost in a talented Buffalo Bills wide receiver room.

What do you think are some of Joe Schoen’s biggest successes of the 2022 NFL Season?
