How the Giants can Sign Jones and Barkley without Mortgaging the Future

There is a pathway to stay within the historic data of building a Super Bowl winning team around Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley.

The Giants can stay within the historical high cap space allocation of 17% for a QB/RB combo. In order to do this they will need to allocate $38 million to those positions in 2023. The NFL salary cap is expected to jump to an estimated $256 million in 2024 and $272 million in 2025. This gives the Giants $43 million for Jones and Barkley in 2024. They will have $46 million available for the duo in 2025.

Daniel Jones Contract

2023 – $28 million (12.4%) / 2024 – $31 million (12.1%) / 2025 – $33 million (12.1%)

The above represents the actual cap hit. NFL GMs are versed in manipulating the cap and Jones may need be given a longer contract to make the numbers work properly.

Saquon Barkley Contract

2023 – $10 million (4.4%) / 2024 $12 million (4.6%) / 2025 – $13 million (4.7%)

Final Thoughts

Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley are not oblivious to the holes on this team. Let’s hope that Jones and Barkley are willing to negotiate with those needs in the back of their minds.
