Instant Analysis: The Steelers Trade For Allen Robinson

In today’s episode of the Pittsburgh Steelers trying to enhance their offensive weapons… The Steelers are making a move for Wide Reveiver Allen Robinson II! Robinson, who’s stay in Los Angeles is no longer going to extend into the 2023 season, is in route to becoming a Pittsburgh Steeler.

In the trade, the Steelers would send a 2023 seventh-round pick (N0. 234 overall) in exchange for Robinson and a 2023 seventh-round pick (No. 251). It is expected the Steelers will only pay $5 million of Robinsons 2023 salary while L.A. will pay the remaining $10.25 million.

Robinson’s Career Has Been Shakey

Robinson only played in 10 games last year for the Rams and put up a disappointing 33 catches for 339 yards and three touchdowns. In 2021 he suffered a Hamstring strain which also set him back. But prior to that, during his time with the Chicago Bears he had back to back 1,000 yard seasons, and averaged 100 receptions between 2019 and 2020.

The hamstring strain wasn’t the only injury in his career, he tore his ACL in 2017 while he was with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Making just one reception in the 2017 campaign. Robinson has also only played in a full 16 game season just 4 times in his 9 year career.

When healthy, he remains a targeting threat for defenses, averaging 100 targets a year, and a catch percentage of 58.6% when targeted. However he is not particularly an endzone threat, having a career high of 14 td in 2015 which lead the NFL. He hasn’t scored more than seven touchdowns in a year since.

With receiving threats like Diontae Johnson, George Pickens, and now Allen Robinson the Steelers should be able to open up mid field options with quickness and size. As well as Calvin Austin III slated for his return to the lines. It becomes more apparent that this offense is centering around Pickets skill sets.

Are you excited for the WR trio to hit the field?
